De nedenstende svar is fra de IFIC, internasjonal mat informasjon Council grunnleggelse, 1100 Connecticut aveny, N. W. suite 430, Washington, DC 20036.(Henblikk i bibliografi, del 8)] Den har been klar for mange r at sukker do ikke forrsaker diabetes mellitus. De effekt av sukker p de betingelse har been sm brnn forst.Answer All patients of diabetes mellitus are not advised to keep a fast. People who are suffering from diabetes mellitus type 1 are generally obese and the main reason they have diabetes is that their body cells do not respond to insulin due to obesity.

Question # 5: Do only obese people get diabetes mellitus?
Answer Diabetes mellitus does not discriminate among people on the basis of their weight. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is the type that generally affects people with more weight. This is because their obesity reduces their bodys response to insulin. Insulin is present in their bodies, but unavailable to perform the task of glucose assimilation. However, there are other kinds of diabetes mellitus also.

What is diabetes mellitus and what causes it?
Diabetes mellitus is caused by an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin. Animals with an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin are called diabetics. Other diseases or the presence of other hormones may be antagonistic to insulin or cause resistance to insulin. Insulin is unable to function normally in the body.Diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, is a disease related to sweetness. It is a condition in which there is too much sugar in the blood and urine. Diabetes can occur at any age and though it may not be curable, it can be controlled.

Question # 6: Why must patients of diabetes mellitus not smoke?
Answer Smoking can cause serious complications with diabetes mellitus. A smoker with diabetes is three times more likely than nonsmokers with diabetes to die of cardiovascular problems such as heart disease and stroke. Smoking interferes with the nervous system. This reduces the immune system of the body. Smoking reduces the lumen of the arteries and other blood vessels. This makes the blood flow through the arteries very difficult.Answer Diabetes mellitus is a disease that sets in gradually. It is very difficult to diagnose it early on. There are specific symptoms that can pinpoint the presence of diabetes mellitus.

Question # 4: How can diabetes mellitus be diagnosed early on?
Answer Diabetes mellitus is a disease that sets in gradually. It is very difficult to diagnose it early on. There are specific symptoms that can pinpoint the presence of diabetes mellitus. But some warning signs can be looked into. It there is an increased hunger or thirst, and yet a loss in weight, then it could be a symptom of diabetes mellitus. Any unexplained weakness could also be an indication of diabetes. In men, impotence, i.e.Normally animals need to have an empty stomach before they are anesthetized. A diabetic dog that has not been fed needs far less insulin.

I have heard about diabetes insipidus, is that the same as diabetes mellitus?
No. Diabetes insipidus, also known as water diabetes is caused when large amounts of dilute urine are produced. It is a far less common condition than diabetes mellitus. Diabetes insipidus is caused by problems in part of the brain or in the kidneys. There is no glucose present in the urine of animals with diabetes insipidus.Answer Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder caused due to the malfunctioning of the pancreas in producing insulin.

Here's a new idea in health care: a little mobile device that lets you store health information and upload it online. The devices are aimed at people who are on the go and need to an easy way to manage their health.

Users can use these hand-held gizmos for writing down symptoms, storing important health care data to give a health care provider, or even alerting themselves when it's time to take a pill, reported a Sunday New York Times article.

If you are asking our opinion as to whether these devices will stick around long, we doubt it. With the price of the gizmos being about $200, it seems a little expensive for what it is.

There is, though, a software program that's compatible with mobile devices like the iPhone. That might be a good idea. Also, electronic medical information and health records will likely become more prevalent as time goes on. Maybe there will be a demand for these after all.

We would really be gung ho if the device was more helpful in managing your health insurance itself. Like if it could alert you to monthly premiums due, or provide names of providers in your network, even whether a prescription or service is covered under your plan. That would definitely get us on board.

This diet has been all over the television. There is even one spokeswoman who says that she has lost weight twice with the program. People have lost as few as thirty-five pounds and as much as 125 pounds with the program.

NutriSystem started off with most of its clients being women. Now, they offer a men's plan and a senior adult plan for both men and women. Their website also states that they have plans for vegetarian dieters and those suffering from Type II diabetes.

The Nutrisystem Diet is based on the glycemic index and uses this system to help people lose weight. High glycemic index foods cause a spike in insulin production, which causes you to be more hungry after consuming these types of food. Low glycemic foods do not cause an insulin spike are digested, in general, more slowly and are more satisfying.

Nutrisystem is a food delivery plan. This means food is delivered to your doorstep every 4 weeks. The food is packaged so as to not require refrigeration. And each dish comes with easy to follow preparation instructions.

The meals are proportioned to provide low glycemic index foods and just the right kinds of nutrients. The good carbs in the dishes cause very rapid weight loss with very little effort. The weight, according to the plan, just melts away.

The Nutrisystem Plan encourages participants to eat low fat milk, dairy, salads, and fruits to each prepackaged meal. The plan focuses on eliminating the bad carbs that most people gorge on everyday. This diet realizes that protein is protein but the primary reason people gain weight is because they overeat bad carbohydrates that are high glycemic foods. Processed carbs spike insulin in the blood while carbs derived from whole grains help stabilize insulin.

The plan doesn't shun exercise but it is designed to work without it. Exercise can only enhance this program since they are already giving you foods that are optimal for you. Whether weight loss will increase with activity is certain.

A criticism of the Nutrisystem Diet is that it is too expensive. However, what most people don't realize is just how much money they spend on food everyday. When viewed in this context, a daily basis, the cost of the plan is quite reasonable. And its ease of use is also appealing. Nutrisystem requires no counting, no recording of meals, or any other record keeping of the sort. You select meals, add some healthy sides and consume.

Rhinoplasty is becoming a fairly common plastic surgery procedure at Chirurgie Esthetique Montreal, but most people don't want to be out of commission for very long. What should you expect when it comes to the recovery time? Well, rhinoplasty is essentially the reshaping of your nose. It's a fairly invasive procedure that often requires breaking the nasal bone and doing some major reconstruction.

While techniques have definitely improved over the past decade, it's still not reasonable to expect to walk out of surgery with your perfect nose. The intensity of the surgery requires some down time and if you are working or studying, you will definitely need to take some time off to recover from your rhinoplasty.

Time Requirements

Most people will need to take at least 4-5 days off, but a week is better, if you can book it. Chances are, you'll feel well enough to go about your daily chores after about 3 days, but that doesn't mean you should head off to work again at that time. While you may feel better after the first couple of days, there are some symptoms that will continue for a little longer.

The first 24 hours after your rhinoplasty surgery are the worst. Waking up, you'll feel sore and swollen, something that definitely diminishes after the first day. However, it's quite common to have a little nosebleed throughout the first few days after surgery. Obviously, it's better to stay home during this time, rather than go in to work.

The bruising is possibly the biggest reason for taking time off from work or school. Due to the trauma of the reshaping, it's very common to have two black eyes after this type of surgery, as well as bruising along the nose. You will probably want to wait until the bruising fades before heading out into public. The nose splint will be worn for a week after surgery, so while this hides some of the bruising; it is still not something most people want to walk around with.

You can speed the recovery time by applying ice packs to reduce the immediate swelling and to help quell bruises. This will shorten the amount of time you need to sit back and recover, as well.

Other Symptoms

Bruising and bleeding may be the main reasons for resting up a week, but there are some other symptoms that can be handy to know about, as well. Talk to your doctor, to find out just what to expect. There's no reason to scare yourself, but it's good to be aware of what to expect.

Swelling will be noticeable for up to a month and a half after the rhinoplasty. This is completely normal and the swelling actually won't go down completely for at least a year. It takes this long to see exactly what the new nose shape will be, so if you're not happy with the form your nose takes immediately, wait for a while before considering intervention. However, the majority of the swelling will be gone within a few weeks and you should be fine to return to work before then.

Rhinoplasty is a definite surgical procedure. It requires some invasive techniques that will leave the nose tender and sore for a while and it's really best to take a week off work to recover. While you could technically head back after just 3 days or so, it would be far more beneficial to let your body relax and heal itself. There's no need to put your life on hold, though, after a few days, you should be able to do just about any normal activity, with the nose splint on.

We should be thankful to the ancient Chinese for bringing to our attention the wonders that can be found in a simple but enjoyable cup of green tea.

For centuries in ancient China, green tea was known for relieving headaches and depression. The tradition of drinking green tea has endured the test of time and today its popularity is soaring as technology breaks down the mystery behind the numerous benefits that are to be enjoyed by regular intake of this soothing drink.

Tea comes in many forms and varieties, but there are three uniquely different types of tea.

Whether black, green, or red, all tea starts from the harvesting of a warm weather evergreen known as Camellia Sinensis. Once the leaves are processed, this is where the differences in the end product happen.

The more processed the leaves are, the darker the tea becomes, which means that green tea has had the least processing.

Green tea is usually a leaf that has been quickly steamed while the blacks and reds have been dried, crushed and fermented making them appear to be stronger and thus more potent.

Don't be deceived by this obvious attribute, because as believed by many, the closer it is to its original state, the more potent and stronger its healing properties are.

All tea is known to contain polyphenols which is known for giving tea its antioxidant properties and antioxidants are believed to protect our bodies from free radical damage.

ORAC score is used to measure antioxidant amounts, and tea scores higher than many fruits and vegetables. Because of this, you should seriously consider including tea in your daily diet.

In addition to the prevention of unwanted blood clotting, studies indicate that polyphenols may lower cholesterol levels and when consumed four to six cups a day my reduce gastric, esophageal and skin cancers. A quick internet search of the benefits of drinking green tea will reveal a seemingly endless list of ailments, aches, and pains that may be relieved through the daily enjoyment of this non-prescription drink.

Some of the more popular ailments that can be cured are cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and impaired immune functions.

Drinking tea also aids us against digestive disorders, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's while increasing metabolism and fat oxidation. It is even said that green tea helps prevent tooth decay because it kills the bacteria which causes dental plaque.

Whatever your purpose for drinking green tea, it is obvious that everyone can get some benefit from daily intake.

It should be noted that many of today's more marketable "herbal teas" may or may not be tea at all as many of these products are blends of herbs and spices with other plant parts included for flavoring.

These do not offer the health promoting qualities of Camellia Sinensis. You should read ingredients carefully to make certain that you are getting the product that you expect.

It's about time to correct the perception that to diet and be healthy is something that only overweight people should do. Anyone, whatever your body weight or physical condition, can enjoy the benefits of a controlled diet and exercise program. These benefits include increased physical and mental energy, less risk of disease, and more happiness. Here are examples that offer you a few reasons why you should diet to be healthy.

Dieting healthy provides you with the energy to do more.

You'll be amazed on how a simple lifestyle change could do to boost your energy - it's better than wasting all your time hoping for a miracle to happen. If you want to get into a healthy dieting lifestyle, then you should exert more effort exercising - within a few days time, you'll have more energy to do more things in life. Don't mind it if you're too slow and sore - once you've settled into a regular exercise routine, you'll find yourself having a blast with all that increased energy levels.

Not only that, healthy dieting also means being particular on what you eat - in that case, you'll be guaranteed that you only take in calories used for energy. "Empty calories" such as soda, sugary desserts, and junk food - which are harmful to our bodies and mostly get stored as fat - are what our diet mostly consists of. Try taking in more of the good calories, so that you'll be more productive during daytime - especially on things that really matter.

Be free from disease with healthy dieting.

Doing pretty much nothing and eating too many of those unhealthy foods place you in a great position to catch diseases. Basically, unhealthy substances and extra weight stop your bodies to function properly. Healthy dieting lifestyle could solve all that by restoring the equilibrium in your bodies, allowing it to function at its best.

An unhealthy lifestyle could cause many common and fatal diseases that you've never known it could. These include obesity, hypertension, sleep apnea, migraines, and dizziness. Mind you that it could get worse and grow potentially fatal, especially if left unchecked. It could find its way to go on and on like a vicious cycle that's hard to break, unless you stop putting off healthy dieting. So, live a healthy life now and get to be disease free.

Healthy dieting makes you happier.

This may sound like a no-brainer, but healthy dieting does make you happier. With more energy to do the things you like, such as being with the people you love, you'll be getting more out of your daily life than you've bargained for. Healthy dieting also gives you more energy to explore everything that life has to offer you - something that should never be taken for granted.

As much as 70% of Americans (the overweight portion) are currently suffering from different diseases. Are you willing to be part of the statistics? If you don't want to be part in any of it, then it's about time that you practice healthy dieting - and be free from all of these diseases. On top of that you'll experience a fuller life through healthy dieting, which spares you from the claws of diseases.

With all of these advantages of a healthy dieting lifestyle, it's still a mystery as to why most people's diet still includes a great amount of tasty but unhealthy foods. Don't make the mistake of living an unhealthy lifestyle - be part of the lucky ones who've seen what healthy dieting can do to give you a happy life. If you can't do it for yourself, at least do it for your children - diet and be healthy.

In the first part of this article on tubal reversal surgery, we discussed how the world renown tubal reversal doctor, Dr. Gary Berger of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, performs this procedure. We are doing this in order to give you an inside peek, so to speak, into what happens during the operation. In the first part, we discussed the tenants of microsurgery that Dr. Berger follows to minimize trauma and bleeding in order to ensure a rapid recovery. We also discussed what happens along the way to getting to the abdominal cavity where the uterus and fallopian tubes lie. Please review that first part.

Before beginning any work on the fallopian tubes, the surgeon washes it with more anesthesia. Using iris scissors, special scissors used in delicate eye surgery, the surgeon will cut off the scarred tube sections left from the tubal ligation surgery. Then he will insert a suture material to be used as a stent to be sure there is no more blockage in the tube section. This is done with a special probe designed by and named for Dr. Winston, the originator of the first tubal ligation reversal procedure.

Moving on to the other piece of the tube, Dr. Berger again removes the damaged part. He threads the stent through the now unblocked end. This goes through the tube and into the uterus if there is no more damage. He lines the ends up together and then puts a few stitches from them into the tissue lying underneath. This is done to provide additional support. The healing of your tubes won't have to rely on just the tiny stitches made in them to keep them in place while healing proceeds.

In case you were curious, the suturing material used is the same kind as used in heart surgeries. It has anti-inflammatory properties and lessens the risk of scarring. This will keep the swelling down around the stitches.

Furthermore, the lower risk of scarring means you lower your chances for an ectopic pregnancy. Why? If your tubes have scars rather than the cilia that moves the fertilized egg along, what is going to move the egg at that point? SO you can see how important it is to keep that scarring down as much as possible. That is also why Dr. Berger does not put sutures through the inner layer of the fallopian tubes. It's to keep the scarring in there to a minimum. He only sutures the two outer layers, though it is the muscular middle layer that is the important one in holding things together.

Now that the tube has been sutured together, Dr. Berger will remove the stent from the fimbrial end of the tube. That's the end nearest the ovary that catches the egg as it is released from the ovary. Now the doctor will fix the other tube in the same manner and then begin the process of closing you back up. He sutures as needed as he backs out.

Maybe you remember from the first part of this article talking about how he cut between two muscles instead of slicing through them. He actually sutures these two muscles together to minimize your risk of developing a hernia. And to keep the tension low on the sutures at the skin layer, he will suture the fine fascia layer just below the skin. In another effort to lower your pain after surgery, he will give you a hypogastric nerve block as well.

As a last step in mitigating pain, the patient will be given a TENS unit, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator, which stimulates the body at the point of the incision to release endorphins to help with the pain. This just goes to show the extent of what Dr. Gary Berger does both during and after a tubal reversal surgery to help you to recovery faster.

Many people opt to go a natural route when finding a cure for their acne problem. This is due not only to healthy nutrition, but also a cheaper route when compared to rising medical costs.

You will not typically see a doctor telling you to take natural approaches when curing your acne. To make matters worse, your friends will not recommend seeing a doctor and will probably tell you what they heard worked best. No wonder folks are bewildered.

What are you supposed to do then? Well you can always combine the natural and medical methods you know. Use topical treatments but make sure to keep your nutrition in check.

You can only do so much for acne. For example, our genes cannot be manipulated as of now and thus, acne affects many people simply because it runs in the family. Control what you can and hope for the best.

A good way to get your day rolling is through a good face scrubbing. By removing the dead skin cells on your face, you are reducing the chance of any future acne building up.

Keep your skin moist. Dry skin will build up continually and lead to a buildup of sebum which will clog more pores, flaring up your acne even more.

Taking a section of skin for analysis you would fine pores, the epidermis, dermis, sebaceous glands, hair follicles, and more.

Also remember to wash your skin at night as well. Sweat builds up during the day and you don't want that stuff to harden on your skin overnight.

If you use Benzoyl Peroxide, do it after cleaning your face at night. This is when your skin and hands are sterile, and it will get down deep into your clogged pores.

Foods that are high in vitamin B and C will also help a great deal. They act as antioxidants and help to reduce any swelling from acne. They also serve to repair any damaged skin.

Herbs are an essential ingredient in a lot of common recipes. Their distinct flavors add a special touch to an otherwise unappetizing meal. But did you know that many of these same herbs can also be used to eliminate bad breath? It's true, most ordinary cooking herbs are actually being used in many parts of the world as a natural alternative solution to the all too common problem of bad breath.

Eucalyptus: Australian aborigines, who chewed the roots for water in the dry outback, first used Eucalyptus. Inhalation of the vapor of eucalyptus oil aids in treating mucus-producing illnesses such as, asthma, bronchitis, whooping cough, and emphysema. The major constituent in eucalyptus leaves is a volatile oil known as eucalyptol Eucalyptus oil is said to function in a fashion similar to that of menthol by acting on receptors in the nasal mucus, leading to a reduction in symptoms such as nasal congestion.

However, this herb is best avoided internally as it can cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. You should not use the oil for infants under two years of age even for inhalation purposes because there is a danger or airway spasm leading to stoppage of breathing, a potentially fatal consequence. Then again the oil may increase bronchial spasms in asthmatics and shouldn't be ingested by people with severe liver disease or any inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract or kidney.

Thyme: This fragrant plant is indigenous to the Mediterranean region of Europe and is extensively cultivated in the Untied States. The dried or partially dried leaves and flowering tops are used medicinally. Many constituents in thyme team up to provide its antitussive (preventing and treating a cough), antispasmodic, and expectorant (thinning the mucus to allow for coughing out) actions. Thyme, either alone or in combination with herbs such as sundew, continues to be one of the most commonly recommended herbs in Europe for the treatment of dry, spasmodic coughs as well as whooping cough. Due to the low toxicity of the herb, it has become a favorite for treating coughs in small children.

Though it is a herb which is fairly safe to use, do keep in mind that a heavy, spasmodic cough, specially in young children, may be a precursor to a more dangerous medical condition, and so do consult a medical practitioner to check for the same.

Myrrh: In ancient times, the red-brown resin of myrrh was used to preserve mummies. It was also used as a remedy for numerous infections, including leprosy and syphilis. Herbalists for relief also recommended myrrh from bad breath and for dental conditions. The three main constituents of myrrh are the resin, the gum, and the volatile oil. All are thought to be important in myrrh's activity as an herbal medicine. Myrrh also has astringent properties and has a soothing effect on inflamed tissues in the mouth and throat. Myrrh is generally safe if used as indicated.

Bloodroot: Native Americans employed bloodroot extensively in ritual and medicine. The dye was used as body paint. Sore throats, cough, rheumatic pains, and various types of cancer were all treated with bloodroot. Alkaloids-principally sanguinarine-constitute the primary active compounds in bloodroot. These are sometimes used in toothpaste and other oral hygiene products because they inhibit the growth of oral bacteria.

Side effects of Bloodroot can cause nausea and vomiting if taken in large amounts.

Caraway: This herb has been used medically for centuries. Its seeds help in digestion and also aid in easing colic pain, especially in children. It is a carminative; therefore it is used in helping gastrointestinal discomfort.

Caraway is generally safe for internal use. However, children should not use the purified volatile oil under two years of age, as oil from caraway and other herbs in the Umbelliferrae family can be irritating to the skin and mucous membranes.

Peppermint: Classified as a carminative herb, peppermint has been used as a general digestive aid and employed in the treatment of indigestion and intestinal colic.

Though peppermint tea is usually considered safe for regular drinking, the same cannot be said for peppermint oil which can cause burning and gastrointestinal upset in some people.

Sage: Sage has one of the longest histories of use of any culinary or medicinal herb. Herbalists externally to treat sprains, swelling, ulcers, and bleeding used it. Internally, a tea made from sage leaves has had a long history of use to treat sore throats and coughs-often used as a gargle.

A word of caution: extremely high amounts of sage can be a causative factor in convulsions.

It can be shocking to know that up to 8 meals of undigested food could be stuck in your colon. Unless your colon is cleansed regularly, all this waste and toxins stops several parts of your digestive system from functioning properly. This means a handful of health conditions including chronic constipation and flatulence. Eventually your immune system will be affective, and other more serious health conditions could arise. Fortunately there are a number of ways we can fight against the ill effects of a dirty colon. Let's find out more on how we can cleanse our colon.

A common, effective method is Hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy works by eliminating old and hardened waste found in the colon. In this case, a tool is used to flush warm water in the rectum and eventually flush waste and toxins out of the body. The procedure may be uncomfortable at first, but just takes a bit of getting used to. The whole process could take just a number of minutes to complete. Many have benefited from this procedure and have claimed to have better skin and overall feeling after a couple of sessions.

Enema another popular method in cleansing the colon. Enemas could be made of plain water, a clay mixture or a coffee mixture. Enemas are considered extremely cheap as a colon cleansing method that can be used conveniently at home. However, they are not very effective in cleansing the lower half of the colon and eliminating mucoid plaque.

An inexpensive alternative can be herbal cleansers. Herbal cleansers are just as effective and another good thing about them is that they are safe to use. Some herbs that make products quite effective are bentonite clay, slippery elm and aloes. Herbal cleansers often provide more than just single action. Each herb is included to target different elements that cause unwanted health conditions. For instance, bentonite clay acts as a mild laxative while slippery elm and aloes contain soothing properties that help improve overall health.

Now if you want to increase the effectiveness of other methods, you may use oxygen based products. However, you need to consult your doctor first if you want to take more than one product or use more than one method to cleanse your colon. Oxygen based products are scientifically formulated with magnesium and oxygen. They do work, but slowly as stool is liquefied and eliminated.

What you eat can affect how dirty your colon will get. There are foods that help cleanse your colon and other foods that worsen its condition. Fasting is often recommended to cleanse the colon, and this includes going on a liquid only diet for a number of weeks or consuming only fruit and/or vegetable juices.

These are also great ways to lose weight. However effective fasting is, it is still considered very inconvenient to some people, as it has very strict requirements that may be very difficult to follow. Generally, foods that are good for your colon are those high in fiber. You should eat more vegetables and drink lots of fresh juices and water. Great foods for your colon include bran cereals and multigrain breads.

Like any other methods to keep healthy, you should couple your diet and/or supplements with an exercise regimen. Good exercises for an effective colon cleanse include jogging, swimming, bicycling, walking, using the trampoline, stomach exercises and twisting exercises.
